World Trade Center Memorials: A Walking Tour & Ferry Ride
Join Justin Ferate as we discover an array of memorials dedicated to those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center disaster. Included will be the newly opened 9/11 Memorial Plaza on the site of the former World Trade Center towers. The Memorial features two enormous waterfalls and reflecting pools, each about an acre in size, set within the footprints of the original Twin Towers. More than 400 trees surround the reflecting pools. The design conveys a spirit of hope and renewal, and creates a contemplative space separate from the usual sights and sounds of a bustling metropolis.

In addition, we will view an array of other memorials and monuments – from St. Paul’s Chapel, where the rescue endeavors took place, to the Firefighters’ Memorial Wall, to the memorial cross at St. Peter’s Church, to Eleven Tears – the rock crystal memorial dedicated to those American Express workers who lost their lives in the disaster. The tour will end with a ride on the Staten Island Ferry to visit what Justin considers to be the best of the World Trade Center memorials: Postcards, an intimate, haunting shrine-like memorial shaped like two postcards caught in the winds…messages to those we’ve loved and lost.

Return: The Postcards World Trade Center Memorial is near the ferry terminal in Staten Island. The Staten Island Ferry, which is free, leaves every half hour. Return time will, in part, be dependent on the ferry departure.
